I have a business trip this weekend to Denver, and it's made me think a bit about travelling in general.
There's something very powerful about a journey. The act of setting one's foot on the road to begin it is representative of a commitment, of risk and opportunity, of adventure. It always feels that way to me, regardless of how mundane the purpose of my trip, or of the manner of conveyance. I've always loved to travel, it has always invoked that sense of adventure. I especially enjoy travelling with my loved ones, particularly my wife. We have the best talks, about any and everything (the meandering path of our topics of conversation is a journey in and of itself), and it's times like that when I truly realize the value of her company, the beauty and grace of her mind.
I travel mostly on business these days, and even that is a rarity; young children can make one very content to stay at home, as well as put into perspective just how small the interior of a vehicle really is. They are growing up, though, and I think it's time to start having some adventures on the road with them. This weekend is for work, but who knows what the future will bring?
